At 10 weeks, several physical signs and symptoms of pregnancy have already been occurring for the mother-to-be. From morning sickness to missed menstrual cycles, most women are aware of their pregnancy and look forward to hearing the baby's first heartbeats with the use of an ultra sensitive stethoscope at their 10-week doctor's appointment, according to the editors at Baby Zone.
Sickness, Fatigue and Mood Fluctuation
Morning sickness should begin to subside and evening nausea may become a problem at 10 weeks. For most women, the first two to eight weeks after conception cause the most nausea, stomach upset and lack of appetite. Fatigue, headaches and fluctuation in mood are common at 10 weeks.
Diet and Bowel Movements
Constipation and flatulence is common for pregnant women at 10 weeks. An increase in whole grain foods, vegetables and water will help regulate bowel movements. Although nausea may be a concern at 10 weeks, continue to eat regularly. Avoid heartburn and indigestion by not lying down right after a meal. Food cravings may be apparent at 10 weeks, but don't overdo the extra munching, since the tiny fetus doesn't need many extra calories just yet.
Breasts and Vagina
The areolae and nipples will darken during the first through fourteenth weeks of pregnancy. By the tenth week, the breasts should no longer be swollen or tender to the touch. Veins will become more visible on the breasts as they enlarge and become more full and round. An increase in thin milky vaginal discharge is common at 10 weeks. Avoid using douches or special wipes, as these may harm the delicate pH balance in vagina, and lead to unwanted infections.
Back and Skin
Backaches are common at this stage, and will continue throughout the pregnancy. At 10 weeks, the mother's skin may become blotchy due to changes in hormone levels. Veins will temporarily become more visible on the legs and stomach.
Showing
At 10 weeks, the baby weighs less than half an ounce, so the mother will just begin to show her pregnancy. Although the baby's arms and legs are fully formed at this stage, the mother will not feel the baby's movements yet. Mild to sharp pains can be expected in the belly as ligaments begin to stretch and thin to provide support for the growing fetus. Regular clothing and bras may begin to feel snug, and maternity clothing should be worn for comfort.
