Everyone needs gas to help the digestive process, but there are some foods and other factors that make your body create excessive gas. Many Americans' diets include high-fat and high-processed foods, making them vulnerable to excessive gas. Additionally, excessive or bad gas can be caused by singular factors, such as constipation, irregular bowel habits or irritable bowel syndrome.
Instructions
- 1
Alter your eating habits. There are some foods and beverages that cause more gas than others. Individuals with some intolerance to lactose sugar found in dairy products can limit their consumption of dairy products, such as yogurt, aged cheeses, milk and ice cream. Some vegetables also might cause excessive gas, such as broccoli, cauliflower and other cruciferous vegetables. The carbonation in sodas and taking in excess air while chewing gum can cause gas. Limiting your consumption of these may reduce bad gas.
2Slow down your consumption. Slowing down when eating and drinking can reduce excess air intake. Also, refrain from excessive talking when eating as this causes excess air intake.
3Start moving. Physical activity after a meal helps digestion and works the food through the digestive system. Activity that involves bending at the waist and stretching the spine forward and backward helps relieve built-up gas and bloating pains.
4Reduce stress in your life. Emotional stress might cause you to produce more stomach acid that can cause gas build up. Engaging in stress-relieving activity and laughing can reduce stomach acid.
5See your doctor if these remedies do not offer relief and your bad gas continues.
